COMPARE · PESITO IS PRE-LAUNCH

Pesito vs Nomad. A dollar account for Brazil, and one for people already here.

Nomad is a Brazilian favorite: a US checking account in dollars, a Visa debit card and US investing, with more than 3.8 million customers. It is built for Brazilians who live in Brazil and want dollars for travel, saving or investing.

That is also its limit. Nomad's own pages say it opens US accounts for Brazilians who are not US residents, with a Brazilian ID and an address in Brazil. If you live and work in the United States, or you are Mexican, Guatemalan or Salvadoran, Nomad is not built for you. Pesito is. Pesito is pre-launch.

The short answer

Pick Nomad if you are Brazilian, you live in Brazil, and you want to hold dollars, spend abroad or invest in the US.

Pick Pesito, once it launches, if you live in the US, you earn in dollars, and you want an account you open with your own country's ID that also works for your family in Mexico.

Side by side.

Pesito is pre-launch. Its column is planned launch pricing and planned features, not a live service. The app will show the final price before you pay. Join the waitlist →

Where Nomad is strong.

For a Brazilian in Brazil, Nomad is a good product: a real US account at an FDIC member bank, no monthly fee, a card that spends dollars abroad with no fee, and a door to US investing. Pesito offers no investing and has no plans to.

Its pricing is open about where it earns: the conversion from reais to dollars, 1% to 2% depending on your Nomad Pass level, shown before you convert.

Why it doesn't fit Latinos living in the US.

Nomad's door is in Brazil. It asks for a Brazilian ID and an address there, and its own guide says its US accounts are for Brazilians who are not US residents.

Our readers move money the other way. They earn dollars here and need them to reach Mexico without losing a slice on the way. Nomad does not send to Mexico. Pesito's plan is $0 and 0% FX between Pesito accounts, domestic or international, starting with the US and Mexico.

If you are Brazilian and live in the US

By its own rules, Nomad is not your account either. This site is in Portuguese, and Brazil, with Pix, is on Pesito's roadmap for a later phase, subject to licensing. There is no date yet: see the roadmap.

Frequently asked.

Can I open a Nomad account if I live in the US?
No, by Nomad's own rules: it opens US accounts for Brazilians who are not US residents, with a Brazilian ID and an address in Brazil.
Can I open Nomad if I'm Mexican?
No. Nomad asks for a Brazilian ID (an RG, a driver's license or a Brazilian passport). Pesito's plan is that your own country's ID, such as a passport, or an ITIN opens the account, with no Social Security number.
Can I send money to Mexico with Nomad?
Nomad's transfers go to US accounts, other Nomad accounts and Brazil; it does not list Mexico. Pesito's planned price is $0 and 0% FX between Pesito accounts, and $0 for a standard withdrawal to any Mexican bank.
What does Nomad charge to buy dollars?
A conversion fee of 1% to 2% on reais, depending on your Nomad Pass level, plus Brazil's IOF tax, which Nomad puts at 3.5% to fund the account. Pesito's planned exchange-rate markup on the Pesito network is 0%.
Does Pesito work in Brazil?
Not at launch. Pesito starts with the US and Mexico. Brazil, with Pix, is planned for a later phase, subject to licensing, with no date yet.
